How to be Happy With Your Handbag
(Written by Lauren, TCU Intern) How much does your handbag weigh? Probably too much. According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, the average woman’s handbag weighs between 3 and 5 pounds, although some can weigh twice that much. Large bags may seem convenient because they can hold so many items, but do you really need everything that’s in your big bag?
Downsizing is the newest trend this season, with many women choosing cross-body bags and clutches over satchels and totes. Cross-body bags are especially popular this season, leaving your hands free for shopping. They’re perfect for carrying your wallet, phone, and a few essential cosmetics. Clutches are held so close to your body that they can easily become a part of your outfit and make a great accessory. Some even include straps so they can be worn as a handbag as well. Wallets that have enough room for your cell phone and a couple credit cards are also a great idea. Most of them also come with a wrist strap, making them easy to carry when you just have a few errands to run and only need your credit card and phone.
If you’re having trouble ditching the big tote for a smaller bag, try filling your tote with smaller bags. Have a bag for cosmetics, a wallet that has room for your phone, and have your iPad or e-reader in a case as well. This way, you have a place for everything instead of a bag that’s full of loose items. It’s also convenient for errands you may need to make during the day, so you can just grab your wallet/phone case to make a coffee run instead of having to bring your whole tote with you everywhere.
