Packing for European Tour

In October, I enjoyed a two-week cruise along the scenic Blue Danube River, and I’d love to share some packing tips with you! As I reviewed the 10-day weather forecast, I realized it would be significantly cooler than the Texas temperatures I’m used to. Having not worn winter clothes in a while, I had to prepare for various layers to handle the cooler climate. The secret? Layering!

I packed a versatile 30-piece wardrobe that allowed me to adapt to a range of temperatures. It could be chilly outdoors yet warm inside, and I needed outfits for both daytime tours and evening events, ranging from casual to cocktail attire.

To stay organized, I carried a 22-inch rolling suitcase as my carry-on, which held essentials like my computer, iPad, toiletries, makeup, jewelry, and clothes for the first two days (we stayed in a hotel for two nights before boarding the riverboat). I checked a 24-inch suitcase for the rest of my clothes and any larger bottles of liquids.

Here’s a breakdown of my 30-item navy-themed wardrobe:

      • 16 tops: 8 for daytime, 6 for evening
      • 6 bottoms: jeans, 2 pairs of cotton navy pants, 2 pairs of polyester navy pants,
and 1 pair of printed navy pants
      • 1 teal dress
      • 2 sweaters/jackets
      • 1 navy warmup suit
      • 1 teal puffer jacket
      • 1 rain jacket
      • 4 pairs of shoes: navy sneakers, navy loafers, navy low heels, and gold evening
        shoes
      • 3 purses
      • 2 shawls
      • 2 scarves
      • Underwear
      • Nightwear

Interestingly, I found myself wearing the warmest items each day, including the puffer jacket and a wool scarf, so a few of the lighter layers weren’t used at all.

Amazingly, my checked bag weighed only 26.8 pounds!

I hope these packing tips help you prepare for your next adventure!
