Can Curvy Girls Wear Skinny Jeans?

I learned a hard lesson the other day: Don’t ask a man his opinion if you don’t want it. Have you ever asked your husband/significant other what he thinks of your appearance or outfit? I did, and here is my story:

I love skinny jeans (reference the picture on the right for a clarification).  Love how they look, love that they are a big trend right now, and I really want to wear them. Now I know better than most that not every trend is for every person, but I was hoping to get away with this one. FYI, I’m curvy, and that description alone will tell you that I am going to have some trouble with the skinny jean. But, I bought a pair anyway just to see if I could pull it off.

I brought my new skinny jeans home and tried them on for my husband. Many men actually have a great sense for clothing shapes. They understand when an outfit is enhancing a woman’s natural assets, and when it doesn’t. My husband is one of these men, and I really respect his opinion on fashion. So, when I asked him what he honestly thought about me and my skinny jeans, he was totally honest. He said, “You look like a figure eight on sticks.”

I was a bit crushed, but I knew that it was coming. Needless to say, skinny jeans really aren’t my best option when it comes to trends this season. But, curvy girls can wear skinny jeans if they are paired with a long top or tunic. As long as our top falls well past our curves, we can rock a great pair of skinnies, just like the straight girls.
